There's an interesting blog post called Too much to ask by Kerry McCarthy, the MP for Bristol East. In it she clarifies the aims of PCT exceptional Funding panels and also highlights the utter unfairness of the ‘NHS co-payment guidelines’. Under the co-payment rules once you ‘choose’ to pay for your drugs privately (there seems to be a whole new definition of the word choice here), you also have to pay for all of your other treatment -  consultant fees, scan fees, everything.
